Chronic Myelocytic Leukemia in Identical Twins
نویسنده
چکیده
T HE OCCURRENCE of multiple cases of chronic myelocytic leukemia in a family is rare and, to our knowledge, has not been reported in identical twins. An analysis of such data may provide evidence for the existence of genetic factors in human leukemia. This is a report of the development of chronic myelocytic leukemia in identical twins and in one of their brothers. (Figure 1 ). In addition, epidemiological, hematological and cytogenetic data are presented.

Two Techniques of Tonsillectomy Performed in Identical Twins: A Case Report
Introduction:Cold dissection (CD) and bipolar cautery dissection (BCD) techniques are two common surgical tonsillectomy procedures used in the clinic. Obstruction has become more prevalent as the major surgical indication and is most prominently observed in younger children.Case Report: In this report, we aimed to explain the abovementioned surgical techniques in detail and compare the results...
متن کاملProtracted and variable latency of acute lymphoblastic leukemia after TEL-AML1 gene fusion in utero.
We report a pair of identical twins with concordant acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Unusually, their diagnoses were spaced 9 years apart at ages 5 and 14. Leukemic cells in both twins had a TEL-AML1 rearrangement, which was characterized at the DNA level by an adaptation of a long distance polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The genomic fusion sequence was identical in the two leukemias...

Joseph Needham' has recently observed that ' progress in science consists not so much of finding the right answers to certain definite and sensible questions, as of deciding what questions are sensible, and of making them definite.' In clinical medicine this is as a rule by no means easy, for cases occur in a haphazard manner in populations subjected to a variety of external influences which wi...
متن کاملBIRC5 Gene Disruption via CRISPR/Cas9n Platform Suppress Acute Myelocytic Leukemia Progression
Background: Acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) is a clonal malignancy resulting from the accumulation of genetic abnormalities in the cells. Human baculoviral inhibitor of apoptosis repeat-containing 5 (BIRC5), encodes survivin, is one of only a handful of genes that is differentially over-expressed in numerous malignant diseases including AML. Methods: The BIRC5 was silenced permanently in two AM...
